How,to,Write,a,Paragraph

How to Write a Paragraph 1.1 Basic idea A paragraph is composed of a group of closely related sentences which develop one central idea. Purposefully designed to fit together, a paragraph should be adequate in itself and s the basic unit of a whole composition. 1.2 Indentation The most generally accepted indentation is to begin the first sentence of a new idea six spaces into the line. If you have used six spaces for indentation, you must use the same amount of space for all of your paragraph indentation. The indentation signals to the reader that a new paragraph or a new idea has begun. In a handwritten manuscript, the margin of white space at the sides should not be less than five spaces. The right-hand ends of the lines should be made as uni as possible, and this can be done by dividing a long word at the end of a syllable. 1.3 Relationship What is the relationship between a paragraph and an essay A paragraph is part of an essay, and an essay is composed of a group of related paragraphs. In other words, an essay can be subdivided into many paragraphs, but a paragraph can stand by itself as a complete unit. The relationship can be clearly seen from the following diagram Introduction beginning with a thesis statement Body supporting the points Conclusion completing the essay 1.4 Length There is no definite rule for fixing the length of a paragraph. A paragraph can be as short as one sentence or as long as a whole page. But a sentence may be made up of one or two words, or it may run to a whole page. So sentence count is not a reliable yardstick for the measurement of a paragraph. On the whole, your paragraphs should be adequately developed, and they should be about from five to eight lines long. The length varies with your purpose or design.
